Circa, 1886, Designed by Samuel Colt for the US military it was a muzzle loaded cap and ball .44 caliber revolver

used during the American civil war. It was favoured as a side arm by cavalry, infantry and artillery troops.

The army 1860 revolver utilises the same size frame as the .36 caliber 1851 navy revolver. The most important

distinguishing feature introduced to the 1860 revolver was the”creeping ” loading lever. This set up a employs a

cam interface between lever and barrel. This prevented the lever from dropping and tying up the revolve if it happened

to recoil loose from the barrel latch during firing. More than 200,000 were manufactured between 1860-1873.

The biggest customer being the US government that purchased 127,000 units that it issued to troops.
