Hi, I’m Emma. I work at Scape Interiors one day a week mainly helping out with the window displays and general instore visual merchandising. Today I have been given the task of writing about our new, absolutely gorgeous Indian hand embroidered bedroom occasional armchairs, because I have fallen madly in love with them! I have a passion for Indian textiles and crafts and I think these chairs are just beautiful! I would have put them in the window but they’re a little wide for it, so they’re just on the table inside the shop, you can’t miss them!
We have also got three really unusually shaped tropical birds occasional chairs. They all come with a fan shaped back upholstered in an array of different cotton velvet fabric. They look so pretty that I don’t have the heart to sit on them.
All of the chairs have been made with solid mango wood frames.
Mango wood comes from the mango tree that grows in India. It grows incredibly fast, making it sustainable. It’s also dense, so it’s very strong and durable, especially good for chairs. Another good thing about mango wood, is that it provides an extra income for the mango farmers. The wood can be made into more affordable furniture with less of an impact on the environment.
One thing that I really appreciate about all of these chairs is that that are really comfortable to sit in. Most chairs are designed for the average sized man and I’m a bit smaller with shorter legs, so they are perfect!
These are some of the new cushions. They look and feel luxurious with their beautiful designs, velvety texture and feather filled cushion pads.
All of these new Indian wares are fair trade; the skilled workers at this small family run Indian factory have all received fair wages and benefits.
If you appreciate fine craftmanship and Indian design as much as I do, then pop in and have a look, especially the embroidered chairs!! They’re my favourite!
