Stunning Mango Wood Furniture

We have three ranges of mango wood furniture, the industrial style light mango wood furniture range, the plain light mango wood furniture range and also the dark mango wood furniture range.

Mango wood tends to have a subtler grain than Sheesham or Acacia wood, which means it will blend harmoniously with existing furniture in your home; the less highly polished, softer finish means that the detailing can come to the fore. There are many benefits to this wood.  It is a hard wood, so  is great for making solid furniture that is to be used everyday.  This makes it long lasting and hard wearing.  It is also soft enough to work easily with.

Sustainable Wood
Mango wood is a truly sustainable hardwood, as it is first grown for fruit and as it gets older and larger and stops producing fruit, the timber is then used to make furniture.  Mango trees are very fast growing and will reach around 80 – 100ft in height and about 3-4 ft. in diameter in about 20 years. After they have reached their full height, the tree stops producing or produces a lot less fruit and so is then used for timber. After the trees have been cut down, new trees are planted to ensure that the cycle continues making this tropical timber truly sustainable.

Mango Wood Production
Our dark Mango wood furniture range, light mango wood furniture range, distressed painted mango wood furniture range are all produced by our main supplier in India. We have built a long-term relationship with this supplier, we visit them every year, and help them design some of the furniture range. During our visit, we also check if the working conditions of the workers and the production quality are up to standard.

Mango Wood Care
Mango wood should be cared for and treated for in the same way as our Sheesham wood. We recommend the use of Briwax, this will add both lustre of the wood, feed the timber and keep the colour strong. We recommend waxing your furniture at least once a year but to really maintain lustre we recommend it is done twice and sometimes more if it is used a lot.

To get the best finish from your wax follow these easy steps

  • Apply the wax with a soft cloth in a circular motion
  • Make sure that there is enough wax on the wood but not too much that it leaves streaks – this is really important
  • Leave the wax for 20 to 30 minutes so it hardens off
  • Finally buff off –  first with a shoe brush going with the grain and then with a soft cloth again going with the grain
  • Don’t forget to wax the inside of the drawers to stop the drawers from sticking.

Briwax Original, plus other wood finishing materials

Ring marks and other marks are easily removed by using the Briwax medium brown wax and some fine wire wool.  We always recommend the use of coasters as the furniture doesn’t have a sealed finish.
